The Federal Government College Okigwe Old Students Association (FEGOCOOSA), Abuja Chapter will be honouring one of theirs, Chidi Odinkalu, the chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), for being a “worthy ambassador”.
Mr. Odinkalu will be hosted to a reception on Sunday, April 1 in Abuja. Guests expected to attend the event include the Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, Lamido Sanusi; the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha; and the Minister of Education, Ruqayyatu Rufai.
Sam Amadi, the Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), has been slated as guest speaker and will be speaking on the topic, “Education and the challenges of transformation in Nigeria”.
The president of FEGOCOOSA, Abuja Chapter, Okey Chikwendu, said in a statement on Friday that Mr. Odinkalu, a lawyer and human rights activist, is being honoured by his alumni in line with the principles of promoting excellence as impacted on them by their alma mater.
He said Mr. Odinkalu had not only distinguished himself in his forte as a lawyer, academic, and human rights activist but had become a worthy ambassador of his alumni.
“Anselm (Odinkalu) is one of our brightest and showed signs that he would be a leading light of his generation in his formative days at FGC Okigwe,” Mr. Chikwendu said. “We believe that in honouring Anselm, we will invariably be honouring ourselves as alumni and as a group.”
