District head, 11 others injured as communities fight for land

The District Head of Kinafa in Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area of Gombe State, Muhammad Inuwa, was among 12 people injured in a clash between the community and residents of Gwani community in the same local government.

The violent clash was over ownership of a farm land.

A community leader in Kinafa, Abdu Kinafa, said some of the victims were critically injured.

A staff of the Specialist Hospital in Gombe said 11 injured people were brought to the hospital while one was referred to the teaching hospital in Gombe.

In his account of the incident, Mr. Inuwa said the dispute started last Monday and was reported to the police who resolved it against Gwani community.

He said he went to the farm with his 12-year-old son when he was attacked by over 30 people from Gwani. He said the attackers using sticks and cutlasses then went to his village to attack other residents.

The district head said he warned his community not to retaliate and appealed to security agencies to intervene in the situation.

The Gombe State Police Public Relations Officer, Fwaje Attajiri, said the police was already investigating the matter.

“I have no details but I will soon call you and give you the details,” he said.
