Boko Haram: Borno to evacuate 5,000 IDPS from Adamawa camp

The Borno State government has completed plans to evacuate over 5,000 of its indigenes who are in displaced persons’ camps, IDPs, in neighbouring Adamawa State.

The Borno Deputy Governor, Usman Dukuwa, disclosed this to journalists in Yola after he visited the displaced persons.

“l am here on the instructions of the governor to see our over 5000 IDPs; and he asked me to tell you that in two weeks time we shall resume your evacuation back to your homes,” he said.

“We have put in place things that will make you live comfortably again in your homes and villages.”

While commending the government and people of Adamawa State for the support provided for the IDPs, Mr. Dukuwa assured the IDPs that farmers among them would return to their farms next year.

The deputy governor also stated that as part of efforts to rehabilitate the displaced persons “the governor of Borno state has set up Ministry of Reconstruction and Rehabilitation to take care of the damages caused by insurgents”.

Speaking to PREMIUM TIMES on the situation at the camp, the head of the National Emergency Management Agency, Sa’ad Bello, said “Borno State has over 5,000 IDPs including women and children in our camps in Adamawa.”

“The deputy governor visited all the camps and has said that they will resume evacuation of their indigenes in two weeks time.”

The Borno government had stopped the evacuation of internally displaced persons after the death of its former deputy governor, Zannah Mustapha, in April.
