Police pledge violent-free Taraba rerun election

The police and other security agencies are fully ready for Saturday’s supplementary governorship election in 10 local government areas of Taraba State, the police said.

Speaking to PREMIUM TIMES, the police public relations officer of Taraba State, Joseph Kwage, said “apart from the over 7000 security operatives deployed to all polling units across the affected areas, we have mobile policemen from four states on ground now”.

Mr. Kwage said detachment of mobile policemen from Gombe, Bauchi, Benue and Nasarawa states were already in Taraba.
“We are very prepared for the election in the affected local government areas,” he said. “Every voting point, our men will be there.”

He said the force reviewed its performance after previous elections.

“We have taken care of areas we need to, and I can assure you that with the combined effort those who plan to cheat or create problem will be dealt with,” the police spokesman said.

Mr. Kwage added that all non-sensitive materials were already on the way to their destinations with full security cover.

He assured the people of the state the police would do every possible to ensure a violent-free election.
