The North East chapter of the All Progressives Congress has called for the zoning of either the senate president or speaker of the House of Assembly to the zone.
The APC clinched the presidential election and won majority of the National Assembly seats.
APC’s National Vice Chairman North East, B. D Lawal, said the call followed the massive support the people of the zone accorded the party in the presidential and National Assembly polls.
Mr. Lawal, who made the statement via a press release, said, “In recognition of this immense contribution to the party’s victory, I want to seize this opportunity to call on the APC National Leadership to cede either the senate presidency or speaker of the House of Representatives to the region where we have an abundance of talent and imminently qualified candidates for these positions.
“This will set the region on a course of accelerated development that it so desperately needs.”
Congratulating the president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, and his running mate,Yemi Osibanjo, Mr. Lawal attributed their success in the election to their doggedness and perseverance.
He said their victory was full of lessons for Nigerians.
Mr. Lawal commended the people of the region for having faith in the party and coming out en-masse to vote the APX during the elections.
He charged the people not to despair despite the alleged rigging that took place in Taraba state.
He expressed optimism that very soon the party will reclaim its mandate.
Mr. Lawal also urged the people to vote APC massively during the coming guber and state assembly polls so as to facilitate coordination and planning of developmental projects to the region.
