The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Borno state on Friday described the emergence of Mohammad Imam as the party’s gubernatorial candidate as a good omen.

The party said the development has already divided the ranks of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state. It also denied that the choice of Mr. Imam, a former state Chairman of the defunct All Nigeria People Party, ANPP, was a rancorous one.

In a statement issued at end of a special meeting convened by leaders of the party, Usman Bama, the convener of the meeting, said Muhammed Imam’s candidature gives the party the hope of forming a state government for the first time since 1999.

Part of the statement reads:

“We felicitate with citizens of Borno state on the occasion of the New Year, and to congratulate the leadership of our great party at all levels for choosing a sure horse Mohammed Imam, as the PDP governorship candidate in Borno state”.

“Those who are conversant with developments in the state can attest to the fact that there has been massive support to Mohammed Imam’s candidature even from the camp of the incumbent Borno State Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, as many have indicated readiness to support and work for the success of Mohammed Imam.

“We note with satisfaction the unanimous endorsement of Mohammed Imam as the governorship flag bearer of the PDP in Borno state by leaders and all stakeholders of our great party, which has been upheld by the President, Dr Goodluck EbeleJonathan, the PDP national Leader and his Borno state counterpart Honorable Mohammed Wakil, Minister of State Power.

“We wish to state as a matter of fact that the emergence of Mohammed Imam as the Borno PDP Governorship flagbearer has elicited enthusiastic response from across political parties, as evidenced from the jubilations that greeted his announcement.

“The reaction of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, which has been desperately trying to stir unnecessary disquiet in the PDP since the candidature of Mohammed Imam was made known is a tacit demonstration of weakness, as it lacks the capability to face Imam at the polls.

“Mohammed Imam and this group would like to assure the good people of Borno state that the desire for change in governance of our dear state is real and cannot be compromised on a platter of blackmail nay mischief.

“We want use this medium to correct some certain mischievous publications being syndicated in the press recently to the effect that there has been rancor in our greatparty over thechoice of Mohammed Imam. We want to put it on clear record that there at no time was there protest byany section of the PDP under any kind of group”.

I don’t understand what Usman Bama is still doing with a party (PDP) whose leadership does not even care about the ongoing killings in state. As it is now Usman cannot even go home because PDP has failed to protect the citizens there. The south South u re insulting is the financial father of the nation Nigeria. Note that most of ur northern govnors re already afraid should apc win presitential election and South South decided to start violent in the oil region meaning North as a whole is in trouble. That u see hospital worker, teachers nd other civil servants bn paid salary today is becos of South south.
Ask Buhari, he knows that when South South is against him he can not build even a single road in the north. So, beware of what u say about South South.

What is oil? Is that not the only thing you always make noise about. Please be informed that there is oil every where? It is just a matter of time the north will be your supplier when yours must have dried up. And when the north sea melt there will no Delter Area so you will be forced to move to the north where we shall accommodate you. Happy new year

You lack exposure and exhibit typical arrogance from a man from the south. Cant Nigeria survive without oil? The north will survive and do better without your useless oil that is crashing like a pack of cards. Reduce your arrogance and stop thinking that oil is everything. Are there no countries without oil doing far better than Nigeria. The north you are seeing have better potentials and less criminals that your south. You must be one of those lazy men that collect free money from foreign oil companies by holding them ransome everyday.

    Succinctly put sir.
Have always said humanity has failed the Creator. It’s even worse in Africa nay Nigeria because of self-inflicted ignorance and wickedness. But God cannot fail. There will always be a remnant who references God in truth and spirit.
Because of dashed hope and trust, am lukewarm to humans now until proven. Cheers!

My own personal opinion is the first law of nature is: selfishness, But if man has a conscience and the fear of God, he will know how to behave. But most people this days have sold their conscience to the devil for the lust of money.
This money seems to be their own god anywhere they are: be it in the church or the mosque.
