Bauchi State Governor, Isa Yuguda, and Senator Abdu Ningi on Sunday night emerged the 2015 Senatorial candidates of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, after going into unopposed primaries.
Mr. Yuguda emerged the unchallenged candidate of Bauchi South Senatorial seat after his only opponent, Sanusi Baban Tanko, withdrew during the primary election on Sunday night.
Similarly, Senator Abdu Ningi, who is an incumbent Senator representing Bauchi North, was declared victorious in Ningi town on Sunday night during the primaries in which he was an unopposed aspirant.
Mr. Yuguda’s opponent, Mr. Tanko, said he went into the contest unaware of the Governor’s interest on the same seat. He then called on all his supporters, after casting his vote in favour of Governor Yuguda, to do same.
Mr. Tanko was in 1992 an adviser on budget and planning under former Governor Dahiru Deba, and was also a PDP governorship aspirant in 2011.
The entire Bauchi South delegates cast their votes in favour of the outgoing governor, except one invalid ballot and one other ballot that counted in favor of his opponent that stepped down.
The Chairman of the Election committee for the primaries, Obong Akpabio, said the election was conducted in a fair and equitable manner”, and saw Mr. Yuguda polling 289 votes.
