Gunmen kill Kwara civil servant

The deceased died on the spot.

Gunmen on Saturday shot dead one Baba Seriki-Sanu, a staff of the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara, who was on his way to Ilorin on official duty.

A witness said Mr. Seriki-Sanu, the treasurer of the Kaiama Emirate Council, was in a bus with other colleagues when the gunmen struck.

The source stated that the incident happened between Kaiama town and Gwaria, another village in the local government.

The deceased died on the spot while other staff who sustained injuries were taken to the hospital.

The staff were on their way to Ilorin to attend a screening by the state’s Local Government Service Commission.

The Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in Kaiama, Christopher Okun, confirmed the incident, saying that no arrest had been made.

The Chairman of the council, Alhassan Bagudu, who also confirmed the development, described it as “shocking and pathetic’’.

Mr. Bagudu pleaded with authorities to as a matter of urgency rehabilitate the Kaiama – Kishi road.

He said the plea became pertinent in view of the danger the deplorable state of road poses to passengers plying the road.

He said the gunmen use the bad road as an opportunity to rob their people.

The deceased has been buried according to Islamic rites.

When contacted, Ajayi Okasanmi, the Police Public Relations Officer in Kwara said he was yet to be briefed about the incident.
