Senator allegedly threatened his neighbour.
A Kaduna Chief Magistrate Court on Monday issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Nuhu Aliyu, a senator, for twice refusing to honour its summons.
Mr. Aliyu is facing a three-count charge of criminal trespass, mischief, and criminal intimidation filed by his neighbor, one Ikechukwu Akansi.
The court had adjourned its sitting to February 3 to enable the senator make an appearance; but he did not attend.
The Chief Magistrate, Bashir Shittu, issued the order after the counsel to the complainant, Victor Ewuzie, urged the court to compel the senator to appear before it, having failed to do so twice.
The chief magistrate adjourned the matter to February 24.
When the case was first mentioned, the complainant had accused Mr. Aliyu of unlawfully and illegally trespassing into his plot located at No B1, Constitution Road, Kaduna. The counsel to the complainant told the court that Mr. Aliyu had threatened to deal with Mr. Ewuzie and the complainant’s friend, Ade Nathaniel, when they confronted the senator on the matter.
The lawyer added since after the threat was made, Mr. Ewuzie and his family have been living in fear. Mr. Ewuzie said that the offences contravened sections 342, 326, and 396 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State.
