The test will be conducted in an effort to control the spread of the disease.
The Action Committee on HIV and AIDS in Gombe State on Thursday said it planned to conduct tests for 500,000 persons in the state to ascertain their status.
The Project Manager of the agency, Siraj Abdulkarim, announced this in Gombe.
He said the test would be conducted in the 11 local government areas of the state as part of efforts to control the spread of the disease.
The project manager said N15 million was required for the purchase of one million test kit, adding that the state Governor, Ibrahim Dankwambo, had promised to support the exercise.
He said the kit would be distributed to desk officers in the local government areas to conduct the tests.
Mr. Abdulkarim said that the decision was aimed at achieving the Presidential Comprehensive Responsive Plan by the Federal Government, where 80 million Nigerians would be tested.
He said more than 90,000 HIV patients were accessing the anti-retroviral theraphy, ART, drugs in the state, assuring that the government intended to increase the number.
He said the agency will conduct the tests in various communities, market squares and other public places.
He said the agency would partner with the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) to provide human resources for the exercise.
