The suspects were killed during gun battles with police
The Police Command in Adamawa on Monday confirmed it killed 15 robbery suspects and arrested 61 others in 2013.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Godfrey Okeke, made the confirmation at a news briefing on the achievements of the command in 2013 in Yola.
Mr. Okeke said the suspects were killed during a gun dwell with the police in several confrontations.
He said the command had made a significant achievement in combating crimes across the state with the support of other sister agencies working in the state.
The commissioner said during the year under review, the command recorded 22 armed robbery cases and arrested 61 suspects.
Mr. Okeke said the command also arrested 220 suspects in other related crimes and recovered 67 arms with a total of 1,161 live ammunition and 30 live cartridges.
He said 21 stolen vehicles were recovered, while 118 suspects were charged to court with 55 of them convicted, adding that investigations were ongoing in 47 cases.
The commissioner said in the process of combating crimes in the state in 2013, the command carried out 365 raids in various hideouts used by criminals across the state.
“I identified drugs as the major motivator of crimes in Adamawa and decided to fight it headlong,” Mr. Okeke said.
