The council appealed for resident’s cooperation.
The Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau has announced restriction on commercial motorcyclists’ operation during the arrival and burial of the remains of late Solomon Lar in the area.
The Chairman of the funeral security committee, Jon Temlong, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the restriction became necessary due to the large number of mourners expected at the burial ceremony.
He said that the restriction would be from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday and from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, when part of the funeral programme would be held.
“We don’t want to take chances, knowing that some miscreants always take advantage of motorcycles to cause havoc in the society.
“Although commercial motorcycles are the main means of transport in all the local government areas in the state, we have to take the decision to control security in the council,” he said.
Temlong, a retired brigadier general, assured mourners within and outside the country, who were expected at the ceremony, of their safety, adding that adequate security had been put in place by the authorities.
He said that security agencies, including the Special Task Force (STF), the Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other paramilitary agencies were battle ready to give the mourners security cover.
He appealed to the public to be patient with the authorities on the measure imposed on commercial motorcyclists.
