Lecturers are demanding that all their entitlements be paid
The University of Jos has directed all its lecturers to resume work on Wednesday.
The Governing Council of the University directed Heads of Departments of the institution to ensure strict compliance with the Federal Government’s directive that all universities resume academic activities on Wednesday or face sanctions.
A statement by the Registrar of the University of Jos, Jilli Dandam, instructed all heads of departments to create timetables towards the resumption date.
“All academic staff of the University of Jos shall return to their various departments/units /directorates and commence work. Daily complain register shall be kept by all heads of department for all the academic staff who are at work. We plead with all academic staff to comply with the University governing council directives,” the statement said.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has been on strike since July 1 demanding the full implementation of a 2009 agreement with the federal government.
After series of meetings including one with President Goodluck Jonathan, the ASUU national executive, NEC, met. The lecturers, who refused to disclose the outcome of their NEC meeting said they would take a definite position on the strike only after meeting again with Mr. Jonathan, a meeting that is yet to hold.
The University of Jos Chapter of ASUU had resolved that it would not resume work until all entitlements of its staff were fully paid; even if the national body suspends its strike.
