The Nasarawa government is building three schools for physically challenged persons.
Gov. Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa State on Wednesday ordered the immediate reinstatement of the physically challenged persons recently disengaged from the state civil service.
Mr. Al-Makura gave the directive when he inspected the ongoing construction of a special school for the deaf in Lafia.
He said the reinstatement would encourage people living with disability and give them a sense of belonging. He said the embargo on employment would soon be lifted to enable the government recruit qualified physically challenged and others into the service.
The governor said he was satisfied with the level of work at the site, adding that when completed, the school would have kindergarten, primary and secondary sections.
He said the state government was working with a renowned U.S. university for the deaf to ensure that graduate from the school gained admission to further their career.
“The essence of putting this school in place is to stop the physically challenged persons from the state from moving to other parts of the country in search of qualitative education.
“Our interface with the only world renowned University for the deaf in U.S will attest to the quality of what we are putting in place here,’’ Mr. Al-Makura said.
The school for the deaf in Lafia is amongst the three special schools being constructed by the Al-Makura administration.
The special school in Akwanga is to cater for the blind and cripple, while that of Keffi will take care of children with autism.
