The community requested a police station to help check miscreants.

A House of Representative member, representing Jos North \ Bassa federal constituency, Suleiman Kwande, has attributed the lingering insecurity in Nigeria to the inadequacy of security personnel and the necessary crime-fighting equipment.

Mr. Kwande said this on Saturday in Jos, while commissioning a modern police outstation in Kabong Jos North Local Government Council, which he constructed and donated to the police force in the state.

Explaining his motivation for constructing the police station, Mr. Kwande said, “This police outpost I’m about commissioning has not been built to witchhunt anyone through the arrest and lock-up of our children, brothers, and sisters, but to maintain law and order as a means of ensuring constant security check of our people and to strive for a more law-abiding society.”

According to Mr. Kwande, the community made the request for a nearby police outpost in the area to help check possible activities of miscreants.

Speaking to journalists after the commissioning, the Mr. Kwande said that apart from providing the structure as an office for the police, he has discussed modalities with authorities of the division on how to assist the police with necessary equipment to do their job.

It was gathered that the lawmaker had earlier made a similar gesture to other communities and financially assisted 50 women of Kabong with soft loans to boost their petty trades.

The Divisional Police Officer, DPO, ‘A’ division, Victor Dimkpa, while addressing the gathering assured the lawmaker and the Kabong community of effective policing in the area.

The police chief said, “Security is everybody’s business; therefore, individuals and groups have their roles to play.”

Mr. Dimkpa also solicited for community policing to assist his men in discharging their duties as expected.

The district head, Laranto Lomark, who spoke on behalf of the community, thanked Mr. Kwande for the service provided to his people. He urged other individuals to take a cue from the representative and help in providing other social amenities for the community.
