The local government chairman said the road had become a death trap.
Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State has commenced the filling of potholes along the Hong–Mubi federal highway.
Speaking to journalists on the exercise, the council chairman, Ahmed Yerima, said the exercise would cover major potholes on the federal road that passes through the Local Government Area.
Mr. Yerima said the affected areas, which cover about eight kilometers, had constituted a death trap to motorists plying the busy road.
He lamented the long neglect of the dilapidated road by the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, saying that prompted him to act so as to reduce the hardship being experienced by motorists plying the road.
While stressing his council’s commitment to making life better for the people, the chairman urged for support and cooperation of the people for his young council.
Also speaking on the rehabilitation work, the Director General of the council’s road maintenance service, Abdulwahab Uba, said the exercise would be completed before the rains set in.
“So many lives are being lost as a result of these potholes and with this rehabilitation, we hope things will change for the better,” Mr. Uba said.
He also assured that after the exercise, the council would proceed to rural feeder roads.
