Mr. Maikilishi said in Jos that the sect had remained largely faceless and that any effort to reach out to them would assist the committee in the task.
He said that the leaders could bridge the gap by using their intelligence network to gather information about the sect from the ward, village and district heads and forward to the committee.
According to him, the leaders should play a vital role of assisting the committee so that lasting peace will be achieved in the northern part of the country.
The cleric said that the opinion, political, religious and traditional rulers should use their local method of relating with the public to gather support for the committee to ease its work.
Mr. Maikilishi urged people from the northern part of the country who had useful information about the sect to forward same to their leaders to ensure progress on the issue of the amnesty. He advised the committee to use the Internet to forward information to the sect so that they could open up a channel of communication and dialogue.
The cleric urged members of the sect to honour the invitation and select some prominent and honest Nigerians that could represent them or serve as their guarantor during the dialogue with the committee.
“The religion of Islam has accepted the issue of peaceful resolution of any misunderstanding through the use of dialogue.
“The committee should also be honest and sincere while handling the issue of amnesty so that the sect will not be suspicious and withdraw,’’ he said.
He appealed to all Nigerians to pray for a peaceful resolution of the security challenges.
