The Police have asked owners of vehicles with tinted glasses to remove them.
The Benue Police Command on Friday said it impounded 80 vehicles with tinted glasses.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ezeala, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Makurdi that the cars were impounded during the week.
Mr. Ezeala said it was done in accordance with the order of the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar.
The spokesman said the enforcement of the ban on tinted glasses was aimed at checking criminals who hide behind the tints to escape the wrath of the law.
Mr. Ezeala said the offenders would be charged to court, and appealed to car owners with tinted windows to remove them regardless of whether they were factory-fitted.
Also, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Alex Adum, called on car owners with tinted glasses to remove them.
Mr. Adum said the “directive must be enforced, even if your tints are factory fitted.”
