The group attributed the origin of the crisis to the Atakar people in the area.
Following the recent outbreak of violence in Ganawuri District of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, which left scores of people dead, the Aten Development Association, Ganawuri has exonerated the Fulanis as master minders of the Ganawuri killings.
President of the Association, Chom Bagu, made the disclosure on Monday in a press conference in Jos, stressing that the Fulani did not instigate the riots.
Mr. Bagu also said that the Aten people, who are the host community, did not part take in the violence as had been speculated in some section of the media. He said his people decided to be peace brokers between the Atakar and the Fulani.
He said the Fulanis have been peaceful neighbors but the Atakar people have in recent times troubled their host over lands.
“Atakar people for decades have been agitating to claim ownership of the land given to them by the Aten when they were expelled by their kinsmen in Fadan Atakar, Kaduna State.
“Ganawuri has prided itself as one of the models of peaceful co-existence on the Plateau. Unfortunately, the violence that started on March 19 in Atakar Ward rudely shattered this 12 years record of actively cultivated peace,” he said.
Mr. Bagu informed that as a result of the increasing violence, residents of the area have relocated for fear of the unknown.
He commended the efforts of the operatives of the Special Task Force, STF, on the Jos crisis for intervening promptly in the wake of violence in the area.
