Police recover corpse of missing officer in Benue

Three other police officers were shot in the attack.

The Benue State Police Command said on Wednesday it had found the corpse of a police officer allegedly killed by some villagers in Naka, Gwer Local Government Area of the State.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ezeala, said in Makurdi that Muktari Ibrahim was allegedly shot dead by some villagers near Naka on March 23.

Mr. Ezeala said the corpse was found on Wednesday at a bush at Naka by a police search party.

The police spokesman said the deceased and others were deployed to Naka on peace keeping mission but they were ambushed while returning from the crisis zone.

He said the ambush took place in Naka during the recent communal crisis between Tiv and Fulani herdsmen.

Mr. Ezeala said three other police officers were shot during the attack.

He said the corpse had since been deposited at the mortuary of the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi.

The police spokesman said normalcy had since been restored to the area and appealed for calm.
