Gunmen attack Nasarawa PDP chairman, seize car

The chairman of the Nasarawa state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, Yunana Iliya, was on Thursday night attacked by gunmen who made away with his car and other valuables.

Mr. Iliya was attacked around 9 p.m. in Kado Estate area of Abuja, few hours after he addressed a world press conference in calling for a state of emergency in the state over the communal violence rocking his state.

The gunmen made away with his official Prado jeep, two mobile phones and official documents belonging to the party. He was initially abducted in the car but the gunmen later threw him out a few kilometres away – around Katampe hill in Abuja.

Confirming the incident, the state secretary of the party, Adamu Onyaki, explained that the gunmen accosted the chairman when he had a stop over to buy fruits around Kado estate.

Mr. Iliya, who is unhurt, is said to be well and in high spirit.

“He is hale and hearty and presently at home in Abuja but his jeep and other items and valuables were taken away by the gunmen,” Mr. Onyaki said.

I like the writer’s comment on the Emir and I quote, ‘Even Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II of Kano appears to have treated the issue with levity in a most unbecoming manner for such a well-learned, well-exposed and fire-spitting monarch’.
