The acting chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Plateau State, Raymond Dabo, has said the party will not allow those who left it as individuals to return as part of a group.
Mr. Dabo stated this on Thursday at the party’s secretariat in Jos.
He was speaking with journalists on the party’s preparation toward the screening of aspirants vying for political offices in the 2015 elections.
“Those who want to return to PDP must be on individual basis, and one must state the reasons why he or she left the party, and why you want to come back,” he said. “You left the party as an individual, but you want to come back as a group; PDP frowns at such behavior, and it is not acceptable.”
He said the procedures for returning to the party included writing a letter to the party in the local government where the member hails from. That chapter would then communicate this to the state secretariat in writing. Approval or not would come from the state chapter.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that some prominent politicians in the state, including Jimmy Cheto, ex-Governor Joshua Dariye, a serving senator, Fidelis Tapgun, who left the PDP for Labour Party, LP, all wished to return to the PDP.
Speaking on the other challenges facing the party, the PDP acting chairman said there were people claiming to be journalists, who visited the secretariat daily, seeking interviews from party officials but then failed to publish the stories.
Mr. Dabo solicited the cooperation of members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, particularly officials of the correspondent’s chapel, to get raid of the quacks in the profession as, according to him, they were destroying the image of journalism.
