Software gadgets used for illegal voter registration exercise have been recovered in Gudi community of Akwanga local government area of Nasarawa State.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ismaila Numan, said the command received complaints of illegal voter registration, swung into action and recovered finger print machine and some booklets.
“We received information that some people were engaged in the illegal registration and we were able to recover the items including print scanners”.
Although the police spokesperson said that they are yet to make any arrest, PREMIUM TIMES leant that one of the culprits was apprehended by youth in the area and handed over to the police at Gudi police outpost.
It was also gathered that the suspects were caught with laptop, web camera, and finger print machines and were conducting a fake voter registration in Angwan waya of Gudi area of Akwanga local government.
The Gudi youth association who caught the suspects and handed them over to police with the materials have petitioned the police force through the division police station Akwanga to investigate the matter.
“We the Gudi youth caught some people at Agwan waya of Gudi doing voter registration with INEC materials such as laptop, web cam and finger print machine,” part of the petition read.
In the petition signed by the association’s Public Relations Officer, Jatau Danladi, the group pressed for an investigation to the incident and punishment for those found culpable.
The Head ICT unit of Nasarawa State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Godwin Idiong, however, said it is not possible to conduct voter registration without a DDC machine.
