Nasarawa impeachment: PDP warns Lai Mohammed against “unguarded utterances”

Lai Mohammed

The Nasarawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said that the unguided utterances of the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress [APC] Lai Mohammed, was capable of truncating the country’s nascent democracy.

A statement issued in Lafia by the state chairman, Yunana Iliya, and made available to journalists, said the recent outburst by Mr. Mohammed over the planned impeachment of Governor Tanko Al-Makura could cause confusion in the state.

Mr. Iliya cautioned the APC spokesperson to always consider the atmosphere before making such utterances to avoid creating unnecessary tension in the country. “Lai is found of making unguided utterances and statements which ordinarily are supposed to be handled with caution so as not rubbish the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Mr. Illiya said.

Mr. Mohammed recently accused President Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP of being the brains behind the renewed plot to impeach Mr. Almakura.

”This latest move by the legislators, who are now marooned in Abuja instead of their base in Lafia, is being instigated by the PDP; this is not in doubt, irrespective of the unconvincing and tepid denial from the party. That this illegality is being contemplated under the watch of President Goodluck Jonathan is clear for all to see. In fact, it is in line with the culture of lawlessness and impunity for which the Jonathan administration has now become infamous,” Mr. Mohammed said.

Mr. Illiya said impeachment was a constitutional matter and what the lawmakers did was not alien to the constitution.

“We expected Lai to have thoroughly consulted the provision of section 188 of the Nigerian constitution before issuing such statements knowing fully that what the lawmakers did is not alien to the constitution,” he said.
“Does Lai want to say that the APC will legalise corruption if given the opportunity to rule this country?”
He urged Mr. Mohammed to crosscheck how government funds were spent in Nasarawa, whether it was in line with due process especially as it regards contract award and execution.

“We equally challenge the APC publicity secretary and his sponsors to come out and tell the world of any contract executed by the present APC administration in the state if that was done in line with due process of advertising such contract and bided for before execution,” Mr. Illiya said.

Mr Yunana Ilya is one of the Sadducees and Pharisees of this political Class, with his pig head , you have all being hidden in Abuja instead of having your impeachment where you think the impeachable offences were committed , where is it written in section188 that you qouted that you can impeach a public officer TWO TIMES for same offences , your fish head and illiteracy will never allow you to understand what the constitution says in the first place. It is time they flush you out to and start school, rather than the country allow your bands of pigs to truncate this fragile democracy , that is what Lai
Mohammed was pointing out. Go back to Lafia and stop hidding in Abuja to do the legislative duty you are elected for or Face Recall.
These rabble rousal must not be allowed to commit political suicide.

Sam, Please do not blame the PDP chairman, he is not a house member. All these insults tells one exactly that you are low thinker.

  • Femi

But the panel has just cleared the governor of any wrong doing, so what do you people want again, if not to cause confusion in the polity.

    • Garba Shehu

Which panel? Is this not the panel that was set up comprises the political office holders appointed by the governor? Is this not the same panel that the house complained about some members immediately the list came out?. These are the issues we should be discussing. Who would you allow your father, Mum, uncle to be the judge between you case and someone? The reasoning starts with us the ordinary persons. If we don’t see anything wrong with the composition of the panel then we are finished as a country.
