Governor Shettima is allegedly at loggerheads with Sheriff.
The Interim Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Borno State, Kaka Malam-Yale, has described the brewing controversy that seemed to have split the ranks of the party in the state as nothing but imaginary.
Mr. Malam-Yale, a former Senator who represented Borno Central Senatorial District for a single term and willingly vacated it in 2007, was inaugurated last Saturday by the interim national secretary of the APC, Tijjani Tumsa, as the state chairman of the party.
Speaking to journalists in Maiduguri on Friday, Mr. Malam-Yale said the battle for supremacy between incumbent governor Kashim Shettima, and his political benefactor, Modu Sheriff, was anything but real.
“As a party, it is normal to have disagreement but I have not received anything official to that effect for me to comment on as the chairman. If you hear anything, it is all imaginary and rumours, and as very serious people, we don’t react to rumours”, said Mr. Malam-Yale.
He also denied the veracity of the claims by a section of defunct Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, threatening to run a parallel state executive of the APC. The CPC group said it was not carried along in the formation of the new APC interim executives.
“As far as I am concerned, I am not aware of any parallel interim state executives of the party, APC, in Borno; it is to me the greatest political joke of the century. Our committee was inaugurated by the national secretary of APC , Alhaji Tijani Tumsa, who acted on behalf of the National Executive Council of the APC. There is no greater legality than the National Executive Council.
“As far as the allegation of Alhaji El-Zubair, the former CPC state chairman, is concerned, we have no faction in APC. If there is anything like that, it has to do with the problem he has with his former party, CPC, and that should not be mistaken for APC’s. My interim vice chairman is from the CPC, the interim publicity secretary is from CPC, so I see no reason why anyone one will say he is not being carried along,”
On how he intends to manage the clamour for various positions in the party as well as other elective public offices by the incumbents, Mr. Malam-Yale said he has sworn to be fair to all party members in the coming congresses. He said every member of the party would enjoy equal rights during the congresses.
