The floods that occurred in 2012 left thousand of Nigerians homeless.
A total of 409 victims of the 2012 flood disaster in Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State have received N8.2 million from the Federal Government’s relief funds, the state government has said.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Development, Abubakar Yusuf, disbursed the money to the victims in Batsari on Wednesday.
Mr. Yusuf, who is also the Chairman of the Relief Funds Distribution Committee, said the Federal Government had released N300 million to the state government as relief fund for last year’s flood victims in the state.
He said that out of the amount, a total of N170 million would be used for the construction of drainage, waterways and other development projects across the 34 local government areas of the state.
He said N130 million will be distributed to over 10,000 victims in the 18 local government areas affected by the flood.
The special adviser said the state government had directed the committee to distribute the funds directly to all the victims of the flood.
Mr. Yusuf urged the beneficiaries to use the money to alleviate some of their difficulties.
Earlier, Lawal Aganku, Batsari Local Government Caretaker Chairman, expressed appreciation over the state and Federal Governments’ assistance to the flood victims in the area.
He also commended Vice President Namadi Sambo for visiting the area in 2012 to sympathise with the victims of the flood.
