Akwa Ibom approves N403 million for WAEC registration

Akwa Ibom Governor Akpabio approves N403 million for WAEC registration.

The Akwa Ibom State Government on Friday approved the release of N403 .1 million for the registration of candidates for the May/June West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations, WASSCE.

The state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Aniekan Umanah, said in Uyo, the state capital that the state governor, Godswill Akpabio, gave the approval as a demonstration of his administration’s commitment to the education of children.

“The approval is in furtherance of the commitment of government in ensuring that Nigerian children in Akwa Ibom public schools are given opportunity to access basic education from primary to senior secondary school, at no cost to their parents or guardians,” the commissioner said.

Mr. Umanah said the administration had engaged in the rehabilitation and construction of education infrastructure including the construction of more than 1,500 classroom blocks, dormitories, and laboratories.

He said the state government had continuously trained and retrained teachers in all parts of the state to enable them cope with the challenges associated with increased school enrolment.
