Governor Obi grants amnesty to 10 prisoners in Anambra

To celebrate the New Year, Gov Obi released 10 inmates from Anambra prisons.

Governor Peter Obi of Anambra has granted amnesty to 10 prison inmates as part of activities to celebrate the New Year in the state.

This is contained in a memo issued on Friday in Awka and signed by Mary Anyaorah, the Secretary to the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy.

Ms. Anyaorah said the amnesty is in accordance with the powers given to the governor in the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria. A breakdown of beneficiaries of the amnesty showed that nine of the prison inmates were released from Onitsha Prison, while one was released from Aguata Prison.

The prisoners freed from Onitsha Prison were Gabriel Onwuaana, Abuulmajeed Babalola, Daniel Chukwurah, Romanus Nwabueze and Adolphus Nwosu.

Others are Okwudili Odife, Chidiebere Echefu, Joseph Akpan and Chikodi Nwoye. Mmaduabuchukwu Umechukwu was released from Aguata Prison.
