The Senator Representing Orlu Senatorial Zone in Imo, Hope Uzodinma, on Friday vowed to spearhead the fight to stamp out robbery and kidnapping in Imo.

Mr. Uzodinma said this at a reception in his honour, organised by the people of Omuma in the Oru-East Local Government Area.  He said he would ensure that adequate measures were put in place within two weeks to secure all communities in the senatorial zone.

“This is supposed to be a collective war. I will spearhead the fight by involving the police and other relevant security operatives to save people from the fear of miscreants.

“I will liaise with Omuma Community Union for a secured atmosphere. Our brothers and sisters who are afraid of coming home would be free to visit home once this measure is taken,” he said.

The senator also said he was committed to ensuring that basic necessities were provide for the community, adding that “creation of job opportunities and provision of water supply are equally close to my heart.”

“Our community will soon become a mini mega city as there will be adequate water supply and building of roads in 2013,” he said.  I am committed to serving you and to making our community better if you continue to cooperate with me.

“Let all the graduates in our community provide my office with their curriculum vitae so that we can give them something to do when there is opportunity,’’ he said.

The Chairman of the Reception Committee, Nkem Okafor, expressed satisfaction with Mr. Uzodinma’s contributions to the law making process in the Senate, saying “he has also been the pillar of development in all the communities that formed this senatorial zone. “

“He has provided us with skill acquisition centers, road network, electricity, class rooms among others since he was elected senator,” he said.

Mr. Okafor said the community requires the senator’s input in the reform to bring about effective local government system, job creation, more economic empowerment and provision of portable water to the zone.

“We are pleading that attention is given to widows who are confirmed to be vulnerable due to a lack of support. The physically challenged persons should also be encouraged to learn vocations of their choice,” he said.
