The Supreme Court, Friday, sacked Eseme Eyibo as a member of the House of Representatives representing Eket Federal constituency of Akwa Ibom.
The apex court affirmed the ruling of the Court of Appeal, Abuja division, which had last January ruled in favour of Bassey Dan Abia who approached the court praying for him to be declared the member representing Eket constituency having been validly nominated during the primary elections of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which was legally monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Appeal Court judge, Ayo Bada, who read the judgement said “the primary election of the PDP held on 7th and 8th of January where Mr. Dan Bassey Abia emerged as the party’s candidate for the April Elections is hereby upheld.”
The apex court Friday agreed with Mr. Bada and also gave an order that Mr. Abia be sworn in immediately in place of Mr. Eyiboh.
Until his sack, Mr. Eyiboh was the chairman of the House Committee on civil society and donor agencies. He was a former spokesman of the House of Representatives when Dimeji Bankole was Speaker.
