A former education minister and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun state, Iyabo Anisulowo, Tuesday announced her defection alongside her supporters to the ruling party in the state, the Action Congress of Nigeria(ACN).
Ms Anisulowo, a one-time governorship candidate in the state, addressed a press conference in Abeokuta to declare that she has dumped the PDP.
She said the decision to join the ACN was as a result of pressure from her people from Yewa zone of the state.
“Consequent upon pressures on me from everybody who is somebody in Ogun State particularly my loving people from Yewa and other concerned stakeholders and chieftains of Action Congress of Nigeria, I have resolved to join the fold of the party,” she said.
She further explained that it took her one year to make the final decision adding that it would be unwise for her zone to sit on the fence while the administration of Governor Ibikunle Amosun is doing well.
The frontline woman politician, however, stated that her decision is not to make money or gain additional popularity, but in the interest of the developmental growth of her zone, which she said has always been victim of marginalization.
“Having served meritoriously as a two-time Commissioner, minister and senator, I think I am fulfilled, but let me quickly state that life is not about ensuring good life for yourself, but pursuing the greatest number of the people.
“I am using this medium to tell the whole world that I am moving to ACN, to join His Excellency, Governor Ibikunle Amosun. The decision to join is as a result of pressure from my people, and it took one year before I took the final decision,” she said.
Ms Anisulowo disclosed that, the former governor, Gbenga Daniel, was not happy when she informed him of her decision to move out from the PDP.
“I want to associate myself with an achiever in the state, and I am equally calling on my people to participate fully and mobilize others to join. Amosun needs people of like minds, hence my resolve to join him. I am also encouraged by the unprecedented contributions to the development of the state by his Excellency.”
