The ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed shock over Friday’s ruling of the Supreme Court sacking the Kebbi State governor, Usman Dakingari, as well as ordering fresh elections within 90 days.
It however said it would do everything within its power to reclaim the state whenever the Independent National Electoral Commission conducts a fresh poll.
Apparently incensed by the verdict of the apex court, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Rufai Alkali, said in a statement in Abuja on Friday that recent judgments by the courts are giving its members cause for serious concern.
“The party receives with great shock the verdict of the Supreme Court, which nullified the election of our Governor in Kebbi State, Saidu Usman Dakingari,” Mr. Alkali said. “While our faith in the judiciary remains unwavering, we are deeply concerned with the trend of judgments, some of which breed unnecessary tension and instability.”
The party however called on the ousted governor to remain steadfast and courageous, promising to ensure that the party would do all within its power to win the re-run election.
PDP also called on its supporters in Kebbi state to remain calm and be law abiding, urging them to consider the judgment as a temporary setback that would soon be upturned.
