The Evangelical Reformed Church of Christ, ERCC, has attributed the incessant crisis in Nasarawa state to the proliferation of arms among the youths.
A communique issued at the end of its general meeting and signed by the president and general secretary of the church, Lakayana Otso and Peter Aya, tasked government at all levels to intensify efforts in checking and preventing the illegal importation of arms.
The statement said the proliferation of arms was a serious threat to the peace and security of the state and the nation at large.
The church also called for synergy between all arms of government and security agencies as well as religious, political and traditional rulers towards finding lasting peace in the state and Nigeria.
The ERCC also condemned the incessant crisis ravaging most parts of the country, especially the North-East; as well as in some parts of Nasarawa State and the southern part of Kaduna state. It called on the states and the federal government to expedite action in bringing an end to the menace.
The church urged government to treat the security situation with all sincerity and shun acts capable of portraying security matters as sentiment.
It disclosed that it had set aside Sunday, September 21 to raise funds for all its members affected by the crisis.
