The PDP chairman says the party is “intact”.

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Bamanga Tukur, on Monday dismissed speculations of a rift in the Nigerian Governors Forum and the party.

There are rumours of a crack within the ruling national party following the emergence of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswil Akpabio, as the Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum.

Mr. Tukur denies this, telling newsmen in Kano that he works with all the PDP governors as brothers and members of the same party.

“I think it is not true that there is rift in the Governors’ Forum or in PDP, there is nothing like that.

“Rotimi Amaechi remains the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, while Godswil Akpabio is the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum and the party is intact,” Mr. Tukur said.

He said his objective as the chairman of the party is a tripartite reform agenda.

He said that it includes reconciling (without confrontation) all the aggrieved party members, reformation without revenge, and rebuilding the party based on equity and justice.

The PDP National Chairman was in Kano to commiserate with the Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, over the attack on his convoy on January 19.

Before his departure to Abuja, the PDP chairman had a meeting with the leaders of the party in the state.
