Plateau Govt debunks reports of fresh attacks in state

The Plateau Government on Wednesday advised media agencies to take every step to verify reports before publishing.

The government, in a statement signed by Information Commissioner, Abraham Yiljap, also warned the public against spreading falsehood and rumours via text messages.

Reacting to media reports and rumours alleging fresh attacks on some villages in Riyom Local Government, the government dismissed the claims as “completely untrue”.

It said that the incident referred to was “an action by the terrorists who, after displacing the villagers through fatal attacks, returned to burn their houses”.

The government decried deliberate attempts to worsen the situation and described the trend as “very dangerous”, and appealed to the people to be extra vigilant.

It advised the people to share correct information with security agencies for prompt action.

The Bauchi state government has also refuted rumours of bombings in the Bauchi State National Youth Service Corps orientation camp.

The National Emergency Management Agency concurred with the state government in refuting the rumours of attacks in the NYSC camp.
