76 oil wells: Cross River and Akwa Ibom are one, PDP says

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said Wednesday in Abuja that Akwa Ibom and Cross River States remain one despite the ceding of 76 oil wells to the former.

The PDP made the declaration in a press release signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh.

“We make bold to declare that Cross River and Akwa Ibom are one and the same. The brotherly relationship existing between their peoples are as historical as they are biological,” the PDP held.

The party commended the government and people of the two states for resolving the dispute through legal means.

“The resolve of the two PDP Governors to seek legal interpretation and adjudication on the matter instead of resorting to other unconventional means is worthy of commendation,” the party said.

The PDP also praised the people for shunning violence in seeking resolution to the oil wells dispute.

The party appealed to the governments of the two states to accept the Supreme Court’s judgment in good faith and encourage activities that would lead to greater cooperation amongst them.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday ceded 76 oil wells that had been the bone of contention between the Akwa Ibom and Cross Rivers states for a long time.
