The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) is set to partner with the National Bureau of statistics (NBS) in the area of data generation and management.
This was made known by the Director General of the NGF, Asishana Okauru, who led a delegation from the NGF on a courtesy call to the Statistician of the Federation, Yemi Kale, at the NBS office in Abuja.
Mr. Okauru said, in a statement after the visit, that the NGF seeks to “improve coordination between Federal and State Government in data generation and management, through the implementation of the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics.”
He also said that the visit, which was aimed at strengthening the on-going partnership between the two organizations, also aims to enhance the use of data for evidence-based policies at the State level; and to discuss the on-going partnership, between NGF and NBS, on the computation of states’ gross domestic product.
According to Mr. Okauru, the governors forum secretariat is “increasingly discharging its mandate to develop a strong knowledge based institution that is able to gather and supply useful analytical information that would assist its principals, the Governors, in their quest for improved governance.”
The two organizations promised to work closely on improving data generation and utilization at the State level.
