The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said on Thursday that it has taken delivery of election materials for the July 14 governorship election in Edo state.
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Edo, Kassim Gaidam, said in Benin, that the commission, on Wednesday, took delivery of the sensitive materials in the presence of the leadership of the seven political parties that will contest the elections.
He said the materials were immediately taken to the Edo branch of Central Bank of Nigeria for safe keeping.
He gave the assurance that the commission would comply with electoral laws in conducting the governorship poll in the state.
Mr. Gaidam warned all full and ad-hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against circumventing the electoral process as anyone caught would be prosecuted by the law enforcement agents.
Meanwhile, the INEC Chairman, Attahiru Jega, will meet with election stakeholders on Friday, the Public Affairs Officer of the commission in the state, Priscilla Imodu-Sule, said.
Mr. Imodu-Sule said the meeting would deliberate on some grey areas about the poll.
