Unknown gunmen, Wednesday afternoon, trailed and killed the General Manager of the Borno state Housing Corporation, Isa Ngaram, in front of his office in the low cost area of Maiduguri, Borno state.
After shooting Mr. Ngaram, the gunmen drove away in his Lexus LX470 SUV.
The spokesperson of the state command of the Nigeria Police Force, Gideon Jibrin, told PREMIUM TIMES that though he has heard of the incident, he is yet to be briefed officially.
Friends of the deceased said that he had earlier complained about the growing insecurity around his office area.
No one has claimed responsibility for the killings, but Maiduguri has witnessed several attacks by the Boko Haram sect since 2009.
The Boko Haram sect launched its revolt in Maiduguri in 2009 and has killed hundreds of people in bombings and other attacks, including assassinations, in the northern part of the country.
The sect says it is fighting to carve out an Islamic state in parts of Nigeria.
However, there have been reported cases of other groups taking advantage of the state of anarchy created by the sect to commit similar crimes.
Earlier this week, 9 construction workers were killed in the city. The workers had their throat slit by their attackers
