Reports reaching us from Maiduguri, Borno State capital, say there were series of bomb attacks in the city, Friday morning.
One of the attacks involved a suicide bomber who forced his way into the headquarters of the Nigerian police force before detonating his bomb laden vehicle.
The suicide bomber could not pass the gate. But even by the gates over 10 persons including the bomber lost their lives. The loud bang shattered windows at the police headquarters building and that of several vehicles within and outside the building.
Earlier in the day, the commander of the Joint Task force (JTF), Victor Ebhaleme, confirmed that another suspected suicide bomber was killed by the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) he was trying to plant at Gidan Dambe area of the city at about 6:00am.
Mr. Ebhaleme said said that when his men arrived the Gidan Dambe scene, “they found a man we believe to be a member of Boko Haram, dismembered by the explosion.”
He added that preliminary investigation has shown that he was killed when he was trying to plant the device.
Residents in Maiduguri also informed PREMIUM TIMES that another IED planted by the gate of Ramat Polytechnic exploded, although no one was affected by the explosion there.
