DANA crash: 5 NUC officials killed in plane crash

The National Universities Commission (NUC) on Monday in Abuja said it lost five of its principal officers in the DANA Air plane crash in Lagos on Sunday.

This is contained in a statement issued by the management of the commission in Abuja.

In the statement, the NUC said the officials were travelling for an official assignment to Lagos.

They are Celestine Onwuliri, the Chairman, Standing Committee on Private Universities, a professor of Zoology and former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri; Mahmud Dukawa , Deputy Director, Treasury; Maimuna Shuaibu, Deputy Director, Open Distance Education; Sonny Ehioghae, Deputy Director (Establishment & Staff Matters) and Chinwe Obi, Deputy Director, Facilities & Infrastructure.

The late Mr. Onwuliri is the husband of Viola Onwuliri, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

    While I condole the bereaved relations of the deaths from this plan crash, I also pray that may the souls of those who lost their lives in this crash rest in perfect peace. Amen. I also want to observe here that government if not fair to the living should to the deaths because each time a thing like this occurs only the names and pictures of their closest ones are mentioned to be involved, why? And even when cars are involved in accidents that claim hundreds of lives you hardly hear of that except theirs are involved. Honestly this is one of the things that annoys the common man(as they call us) that is if at all there is anyone common. Please lets be fair to both the living and the deaths.
