Gunmen abduct medical doctor in Nsukka

The Medical Director of Mount Arafat Hospital at Nsukka in Enugu State, identified simply as Dr Sodiq, has been abducted by unknown gunmen.

Dr. Sodiq was abducted in his hospital at No. 58, Aku Road, Nsukka on Saturday night.

So far, the doctor’s full name has not been obtained. His neighbours say that the man was popularly known as “Dr Sodiq”.

The gateman man at the hospital, who refused to disclose his name, said in Nsukka on Sunday that the gunmen were up to 10.

He said that the gunmen stormed the hospital at about 10.10 p.m. when he (gateman) opened the gate for Dr. Sodiq to go home.

“The next thing I heard was stop there, don’t move anywhere or we will shoot you.

“They (gunmen) put their guns on my mouth and told me not to talk or they will kill me.

“One even knocked my head with the gun,” the gateman said.

He said the gunmen removed the doctor from the driver’s seat at gun-point and pushed him inside from the other door of the car.

“I heard them saying, if you cooperate, we will not harm you.

“They immediately zoomed off with MD in his vehicle. We have reported to the police and they came here two times today,” he said.

Ebere Amarizu, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Enugu State Police Command, confirmed the abduction of the doctor.

He said that the police had commenced investigations that would lead to the doctor’s rescue.

“I have been informed about the kidnapping of Sodiq.

“Police will work round the clock to ensure that he is freed soonest,” Mr. Amaraizu said.
