Adamawa Govt. bans operation of motorcycles in major towns

The Adamawa State Government has banned the operation of motorcycles in five major towns in the state.

The Director Press Affairs to the governor, Maijama’a Adamu, said the ban takes effect from Monday following a statement declaring the ban by Kobis Thimnu, the Secretary to the State Government.

Mr. Adamu said that the ban would affect both commercial and private motorcyclists.

He said that banning of motorcycles operation in the state was initiated because the recent incidents of violent crimes in the state that led to loss of lives were perpetrated on motorcycles.

He listed the affected towns as Yola, Mubi, Muman, Ganye and Michika.

Meanwhile, business activities were crippled in Yola on Monday, as Igbo traders who control 70 per cent of the major businesses in the state capital closed their shops to protest against the insecurity in the town.

The protesting Igbos organised a mini-rally to lamented the recent deaths of many of their kinsmen who had fallen victims to robbery attacks.
