Suspected Kano university bomber arrested, police claim

A man allegedly involved in a bomb attack at a Christian Fellowship service at the Bayero University, Kano has been arrested by the police in Kano, a police statement said.

The blast led to the death of scores of people.

The man, Abubakar Garba, is believed to have converted to Islam in Maiduguri where he also joined the Boko Haram extremist group. He was named Augustine Effiong before his conversion to Islam, police said.

Police sources say the man was initially arrested for attempted murder last Friday, until further investigations revealed his involvement in the Boko Haram attacks.

The police say the man has confessed his involvement in the attacks.

“He confessed to have participated in a series of attacks, killing of policemen and military personnel in the state (Kano), including the recent attack and killings in Bayero University Kano (BUK),” the police statement said.
