Police say 7 villagers killed in overnight attack in Plateau

Police authorities in Jos, the Plateau State capital, have informed Premium Times that some unidentified gunmen have raided Tahoss, a village in the restive Riyom Local Government and killed seven persons.

The spokesperson of the Police command in the state, Samuel Dabai, who confirmed the incident, also said no arrests have been made so far as the attackers came “from the bush in the middle of the night, attack and run back”.

Villages in Riyom local government have witnessed series of overnight attacks in recent times which have claimed a number of lives. Security agencies have so far been unable to curb the attacks.

However, Mr. Dabai said the inability of the security agencies to effect any arrest or repel such attacks is due to the inability of the villagers to inform them early enough until it is too late.

“The villagers do not tell us of these attacks in time, even though at times they hear of such impending attacks ahead of time. That is why the attackers find it easy to hit and run away,” he said.

Mr. Dabai however said investigation had since commenced on the incident.
