The remains of Olaitan Oyerinde, the Principal Private Secretary to Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, murdered by unknown gunmen in his residence in Benin City last weekend, will be interred in his home town, Ede, Osun State on Thursday.
Premium Times gathered that the burial would be preceded by a service of songs at the Government House, Benin City on Wednesday at 4 pm. His corpse is also expected to depart Benin City for Ede in a motorcade at 7am on Thursday.
Mr. Oyerinde, 44, was deputy general secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) before his secondment to the office of the governor of Edo State in November, 2007.
Mr. Oyerinde, a graduate of Mass Communication from the University of Lagos, where he was a former student activist; was also a Lagos State Chairman of Campaign for Democracy (CD) and a former member of defunct Nigerian Tenants Association (NTA).
Mr. Oyerinde began his trade unionism with the Iron and Steel Workers Union as an assistant general secretary. He was also the executive director of the Centre for Workers’ Rights (CWR) based in Lagos.
He is survived by his wife, Funke, and four children.
