A prison inmate, Chima Obinna, on Thursday made a futile escape bid from Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court premises in Lagos State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Obinna, who had spent two months in prison custody, is facing a two-count charge of assault and breach of the peace.
Mr. Obinna, who was brought to the court for trial with the other accused persons, took to his heels while awaiting arraignment.
Vigilant prison and security officials, who immediately launched a man-hunt for the accused, apprehended him at Tax Office, Beach Road, Ikorodu at about 1.00 p.m.
The accused was first arraigned on February 28 and had since remained in prison custody for failing to perfect his bail conditions.
The court had slammed a bail of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum on the accused.
Magistrate Olufunke Hamzat fixed further hearing for May 17.
