Plateau government orders arrest of 3 traditional rulers

The Plateau State Security Council Wednesday ordered the arrest of three high profile traditional rulers of Riyom, Barkinladi and Jos South LGA’s for not living up to government’s expectations in securing citizens within their areas of responsibilities.

The State Commissioner for Information, Yiljap Abraham, made the disclosure at Government Lodge Jishe, while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the emergency Security Council meeting presided over by the Acting Governor Ignatius Longjan.

He however did not give the names of the rulers to be arrested.

According to the commissioner, the Security Council meeting noted with dismay the persistent killings in the affected areas, adding also that the chiefs failed in their responsibilities in cautioning their subjects to live in peace with one another.

He further explained that the affected traditional leaders did not adhere to government warnings that all chiefs should be able to control their subjects and face arrest and prosecution if they fail.

According to the Plateau image maker, the three rulers have already been picked and are answering questions at the Special Task Force’s headquarters in Jos.

Mr. Yiljap also disclosed that the meeting deliberated on other measures aimed at finding lasting solutions to the crisis in the state, and therefore, approved the purchase of bomb detecting equipment for security agents to minimize the occurrences of explosions and other menace in the state.

Mr. Yiljap also said the council approved the purchase of 500 tricycles.

He said delivery of the tricycles is expected within one week, and that they would replace the use of motorcycles for commercial purposes within the state capital.
