The Special task force (STF) in Jos has explained the circumstances that led to the death of one person and injury to 9 others during a UEFA Champions league match in Jos yesterday.
The spokesperson of the STF, Mdahyeya Markus, said the victim that died at the hospital was not killed by the blast.
Mr. Markus said the corpse had a deep cut in his stomach, suggesting that he may have died as a result of injuries sustained during the stampede that followed the explosion.
“Our initial assessment of the corpse of the unidentified victim shows serious deep cuts on his stomach, which suggests that he may have died of injuries sustained in the course of the stampede after the explosion,” he said.
Earlier, the Plateau state commissioner of police, Dipo Ayeni, has said that one person lost his life after a bomb exploded last night at Tudun Wada area of Jos metropolis.
Mr. Ayeni said the bomb went off by the road side near a football viewing center shortly after a UEFA champions league match.
The spokesperson of the state command of the force, Samuel Dabai, had earlier informed us that nine persons sustained injuries after the explosion and have been rushed to the hospital for treatment.
However, the CP confirmed this morning that one person out of the nine lost his life at the state specialist hospital where he was taken for treatment.
“One of the victims died at the specialist hospital while receiving treatment at about 22:15hrs of same day,” said Mr. Ayeni.
In another development, CP Ayeni also said gunmen last night raided a village in Riyom local government of the state and killed six people, two of them children.
The CP said the police have already launched an investigation into the incident, while also urging the public to remain calm and go about their normal legal activities.
