The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the National Assembly to investigate the approval by the National Economic Council for the release of $1 billion to the Federal Government to fight insurgency in the North-east.

The PDP in a statement on Friday, signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, described the release as curious and alarming.

The PDP said it was alarmed by the “manipulative plot by the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration to secure the approvals without recourse to due process.”

It added it was also alarmed that such an amount could be approved for purposes of fighting the insurgents the government claimed it had defeated.

The PDP wondered why the APC-led government avoided the direct constitutional appropriation channel of the National Assembly for funding of items already provided for in the federal budget if it actually has nothing to hide.

“The PDP supports the fight against insurgency. We hold our officers and men confronting the terrorists and securing our territorial integrity in high esteem.

“We are however concerned about the manipulative tendencies connected with the approvals and veracity of claimed purpose of the fund.

“Nigerians would recall that the APC-led Federal Government had claimed that it has since defeated the insurgents.

“If it would take a billion dollar from a nation’s savings to kill what they long claimed dead, then we challenge APC government to come clean and tell Nigerians the whole truth.

The party added: “We therefore call on the National Assembly to interrogate this proposed disbursement and subject it to a thorough but rapid interrogation.”

The PDP, who under its watch Boko Haram was born, nourished and funded is now instigating the come back of the group after the tremendous achievement by President Buhari in the fight against the insurgents in the North East because of 2019 election. Nigerians have not forgotten the sharing of the resources allocated to fight Boko Haram insurgents by PDP, instead of fighting the group, PDP shared the resources like akara to almajiris all over the country while the group were busy killings Nigerians. Nigerians are sleeping soundly but the enemies of Nigerians are not willing to allow it because of 2019.

I am suppressed with this attack coming from South West. I know some of my brothers in South West think and behave like a challenging child who one day he sounds naturally while another day he confused neighbors. No surprise from South South and South East ganging up against South West in ODP Chairmanship election where the South West was doublecrosed in abounding its desire to lead PDP. It was not President Buhari or APC that has cost the South West to loose the Chairmanship that Ayo Fasoye would disowned collective decision in a democratic setting.

This is an idiotic comments. The issue here is not how boko haram started. Buhari and Apc claimed that boko haram has been defeated. How can we use N360B to fight a defeated sect? When you write, ask questions. Is it just about sentiments? Why can’t we be open and truthful? The NASS owes it a duty to probe this illicit provision of funds.

Ken. It is very simple. President Buhari, a democrat took a democratic decision by inviting State Governors to take decision affecting spending on National wealth, a wind comes out with the decision and the it becomes something that was secretly done consequently because National Assembly do not have anything doing they should investigate, who? Not specified. But when PDP under President Jonathan similar spending secretly took place and we later heard it was shared to party-loyal like akara, who was aware of it if not the noice makers now. I have made my contribution let others do. I do not expect your reply.

It is clear that you are not informed. The chairmanship of pdp was zoned to the South, not to the South West. Get that clear. You cannot set the South West against pdp

You don’t even understand what the issue. This rattling is nonsensical. If Boko Haram was born, nourished and funded under PDP’s watch, have you forgotten that Alhaji Muhammadu Buhari said in December 2014 that an attack on Boko Haram is an attack on the North? This was aired on Liberty Radio, Kaduna, and on Channels Television. The same Buhari in June that year said, “Stop killing Boko Haram members”. On June 14, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, then ACN Spokesman said the ban on Boko Haram was unconsitutional (See The Nation newspaper of that date). So, what are we really saying here?
This Excess Crude Account is the one some PDP governors, now in APC, mounted pressure on GEJ to share, and even went to court for it. After sharing it and using the proceeds to install PMB, they turn around blaming GEJ for not saving for the rainy day. If we can borrow to pay salaries, why not go that way in funding Boko Haram which, we are told, is already defeated?
The role of APC chieftains in exhuming a dormant Boko Haram to force GEJ out of office is not haunting them, and will continue to hunt them. Unfortunately, it is the innocent civilians that are being killed why Northern leaders and allies s continue to siphon IDP funds like the grass-cutter.
